Q.Do I have to be a Christian to find a mentor through your program?
A.No. Mentors must subscribe to and agree with (by proclamation) the statement of faith posted on our website, which establishes Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior, but Mentees are not required to do the same.
Q.What are your core doctrinal beliefs as an organization?
A.STATEMENT OF FAITH
We Believe…
· The Bible to be the only inspired, infallible and authoritative Word of God.
· That there is only one God, Creator and Lord of all, who has revealed Himself as
Father, Son and Holy Spirit.· In the deity of our Lord Jesus Christ as true God and true man, His incarnation and
virgin birth, His sinless life, His miracles, His vicarious and atoning death through His shed blood, His bodily resurrection, His ascension to the right hand of the Father, and in His imminent personal return to earth.· That the Lord Jesus Christ died and shed His blood as a sacrifice for sin, and that we
are justified by grace through faith in Christ alone, apart from any human merit.· That the regeneration by the Holy Spirit is absolutely essential for the salvation of lost and sinful man, through the repentance from sin and the acceptance of Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord.
· In the present ministry and gifts of the Holy Spirit, by whose indwelling the Christian is able to live a godly life.
· In the resurrection of both the saved and the lost: they that are saved unto the
resurrection of eternal life and they that are lost unto the resurrection of eternal
separation.· That the church, the spiritual body of which Jesus Christ is the head, is bound together by the Holy Spirit consisting of all who are born again, and that, He is constantly purifying and preparing the body of Christ for His return.
Q.Why is Mentoring important?
A.Reason 1: There is a biblical basis for mentoring
· Bible speaks of ministering to fatherless 41 times in Scripture.
Reason 2: Absent fathers (or mothers) in today’s families hurts kids.
· 33% of all babies born to unmarried women
· Half of America’s children will go through a divorce
· 81% single parent families headed by mother – of these 51% children say rarely or never see their fathers
· The most significant predictor of violent crime is the absence of a father in the home
Q.What is Mentoring?
A.Mentoring is an “intentional relationship in which a mentor helps a protégé reach his or her God given potential.”
Q.How long has Christian Mentors been around?
A.Christian Mentors has been operating and growing since 2003.
Q.Does it cost anything to be a mentor or find a mentor?
A.No. This program is free to mentors and mentees. There is a small fee ($5.00 in most cases) for fingerprinting, but the mentor can be reimbursed for that if they need. Christian Mentors also pays a fee for the FBI background check. Mentors are given the option of paying that fee ($18.00 in most cases) as a donation to help us offset our costs. In some cases, if mentors are participating under an Affiliate Program, the Affiliate will be responsible for that fee, and may or may not collect that donation from the mentor.
Q.Do mentors have to go through a background check?
A.Adults that will be mentoring youth get fingerprinted and go through an FBI background check. Adult mentoring adults are not required to.
Q.Will you come to our church to speak and recruit mentors and mentees?
A.If your church is in Southern California, yes. If not, your church will have to opt to become an Affiliate Program in order to manage our growth properly.
